She finally did it!

Sharon’s Story – From Shaking Hands to Steering Confidence

When Sharon first came to me, she could barely focus on the road. Her hands would shake, and she’d keep checking her blood pressure on her smartwatch mid-lesson, that’s how anxious she was. But slowly—bit by bit—things started to change.

As the weeks passed, her confidence grew. Her driving improved. And one day, mid-lesson, I said, “Sharon… you’re driving!” We both paused. It had crept up on her without her realising. From that moment on, our Friday lessons became something we both looked forward to: a mix of structure, banter, singing, laughter—exactly how lessons should feel.

It wasn’t an easy ride. Her first couple of driving tests didn’t go to plan. But Sharon didn’t give up. She worked hard. She battled through clutch control struggles, hill starts, manoeuvres that made her want to scream—and little by little, her driving became smoother, stronger, and more relaxed.

Then came today: Friday the 13th. Test number three. She was a bag of nerves—and I’ll admit, I was worried. When that much pressure is riding on you, it’s easy to unravel. But this time… she held it together.

She came back from the test, and the examiner said the words we’d both been waiting for: “You’ve passed.”

We both did a double take. Her hands were still shaking as we listened to the feedback—but there it was. The journey with me had come to an end, but her real adventure is just beginning.

Sharon now has the keys to her little red Mini—Doris—and she can go wherever she wants, whenever she wants. And I couldn’t be prouder to have been by her side from the very first shaky lesson to that unforgettable test pass.

Well done, Sharon. You absolutely earned it.
